A method for extrapolating missing or corrupted samples in a digital audio data stream is presented. The method involves spectral extrapolation to synthesize an estimate of the missing material using a sinusoidal representation. The method takes advantage of the relatively slow variation in the time-variant spectral smplitude envelope in comparison with the relatively rapid oscillation of the time-domain signal. Examples, limitations, and applications are considered.
