A Wide Dispersion Constant Directivity Dual Concentric Driver

Methods for controlling the frequency dependent directivity characteristics of horns are briefly reviewed. The effect of the discontinuous expansion laws, currently used to control directivity of wide dispersion, constant directivity horns, on their acoustic performance is considered. A new approach to producing a constant directivity, high-frequency loudspeaker capable of producing high acoustic power levels at low distortion is introduced. The application of this approach in a Dual Concentric driver to produce constant directivity system with point source characteristics is discussed and illustrated with results.
