Advanced Audio Measurement System Using Psychoacoustic Properties

New audio coding techniques take advantage of perceptual masking of the quantization noise. For these systems classical means for evaluation and characterization like SNR measurement or measurement of nonlinear distortions become completely meaningless. This paper describes a measuring system which takes into account psychoacoustic masking properties. Several examples including analog and digital systems are presented to demonstrate the performance.
