An Optical Disk-Based 32-Channel Multitrack Recorder

Disk-based recording systems offer instant access, riskless editing and high audio quality, but until now could not compete with tape recorders concerning three major aspects:Multitracking, archiving, ergonomy. This article describes a 32-channel multitrack recorder that utilizes rewriteable optical disks and is designed to replace standard tape-based analog or digital tape recorders. It explains a unique backup strategy which is not noticeable for the operator and which excels tape-based multitrack recorders by offering new features like riskless overdubbing and unlimited recording time.
