Adaptive Filters for Audio-An Overview with Application Examples

This paper applies concepts from the fields of adaptive filtering and system identification to the design of some special outboard audio signal processing devices. After an introduction to the concepts and terminology of adaptive systems, examples of audio applications of adaptive filters will be presented. Design examples include a processor that directly models the sound of a vintage guitar amplifier, and a processor that eliminates electric guitar pickup noise. Listening tests of guitar signals processed by the systems will be performed during the paper presentation.
