Abstract

A real-time codec capable of compressing five channels of audio data is presented. The sampling rate is 48 kHz, while a bit rate reduction to 384 kb/s is obtained. The coding scheme is essentially the same as the existing 2-channel MUSICAM scheme. The code is in accordance with the ISO/MPEG I standard and conforms to the requirements as stated by ISO/MPEG II.
