When selecting and placing stereo microphones normally only the magnitude is regarded. But also the phase relations should be observed. This paper presents the results of phase measurements on 12 different stereo microphone set-ups and discusses the consequence of choosing a specific set-up depending on reproduction in two-channel stereo or four-channel surround reproduction.
