AB - This paper presents an overview of the technology and standards used in audio adapter cards for multimedia personal computers. The specifications for MPC Level 1 and Level 2 adapters are reviewed, and the Windows Sound System is discussed. Linear PCM sampling, music synthesis, and audio mixing are discussed in detail, and an example design for an MPC Level 2- and Windows Sound System-compatible sound card is presented.
