A New Approach to Digital Audio Equalization

This paper describes a graphical user interface for audio equalization that combines the benefits of parametric and graphic equalizer control methods. The audio processing is implemented as a finite-impulse response (FIR) filter which allows control of both magnitude and phase response. Phase control is affected via a single group delay control that allows a trade-off to be made between linear phase and minimum phase filter coefficients. The resulting phase characteristic for a typical equalization setting is illustrated in comparison with a minimum phase : equalizer.
