A Sensitive Method for the Subjective Evaluation of Audio Codecs

A recent series of subjective tests used trained listeners and a methodology where the listeners were able to switch freely between reference and comparison signals. Very acute discriminations were obtained with exceptional reliability. Still further refinements are being planned that are expected to yield even greater increases in the sensitivity of the method.
