The Ear as a Mechanism of Communication

Authors: Corliss, Edith L.

AES Convention 87 · Paper 2852 · October 1989

Abstract

Just as bandpass, basic noise background, dynamic range and channel capacity of a communication system can be described, performance of the ear itself can be related to measured parameters. These parameters can be extracted from data on speech and hearing. They offer insight as to how external interference and hearing impairments affect the channel capacity available to a listener.
