In recent years the use of coupled chamber design has been implemented successfully for both multipurpose facilities and concert halls. These designs are characterized by the presence of two distinct volumes, connected through an open coupling area. A similar principle employing distribution of absorptive materials has been utilized in the design of several small footprint recording studios. A discussion of the loosely coupled chamber design of these studios is presented. Also presented are measurements of a modern recording facility which employs these design features.
