Hardware and software noise shapers are each used in conjunction with a hardware pulse width modulator to demonstrate the conversion of digital audio data directly to an analogue signal. Spectral results are used for comparison between the all hardware design, a computer simulation and a software noise shaper interfaced to a hardware pulse width modulator. Results suggest that the combination of oversampled noise shaping used in conjunction with pulse width modulation can provide a realizable topology for all digital power amplifiers.
