Measurements of Loudspeaker Parameters Using a Laser Velocity Transducer-An Improved Method

An improved laser-based method for measuring the parameters of a loudspeaker is presented. In this method, besides the fact that no auxiliary known compliance or known mass is needed, the influence of the inductance of the voice coil is almost completely removed from the measured data by means of post-processing in an audio analyzer. Low frequency units as well as mid-range and high frequency units can be measured as long as they comply with the loudspeaker equivalent circuit on which this paper is based. Measurements done on loudspeakers in free air and by the traditional method using a closed enclosure are discussed.
