Recent Developments in Stereo Disc Recording

The paper describes an analog computer analysis made to determine the cause of resonances in the upper high-frequency response of the Westrex StereoDisc cutter, and the mechanical modifications which were made in accordance with the solution suggested by the computer. The result is a smooth response to at least 15 kc verified by actual recordings. The paper also describes the design and application of an electromagnetic device which automatically controls depth of the groove in accordance with the pitch, being actuated from the pitch control mechanism of the Scully recorder. Included also is a description of a study of contemporary stereo disc pickups with regard to frequency response and crosstalk between channels.
