Timing Inter-Relations for Audio with Video

Standardization work in digital audio is currently directed at system synchronization. The situation becomes quite complex when video and film sources are involved, because of the variety of frame rates used in the world, and the necessity of establishing standards that will ensure straightforward international program exchange. The paper will discuss the problems of developing reference signals that will unambiguously synchronize digital audio, analog and digital video and time code based systems. It will also examines several formats for the time code information that is carried by the digital audio serial data, with the aim of decreasing interfacing problems between various media.
