Three-Dimensional Image Reconstruction in Audio

Authors: Romano, Anthony

Journal of the Audio Engineering Society · Volume 35 · Issue 10 · pp. 749–759 · October 1987

Abstract

An imaging technique is described which would permit either an originally recorded or a simulated sound field to be reconstructed in a playback environment. The configuration and surface treatment of the playback enclosure is seen to dictate a required number and arrangement of sources for a desired region of convergence of the reconstructed field. The response of the playback enclosure to this space distribution is then viewed as a filter, which is manipulated to obtain the three-dimensional imaging properties of the desired space.
