Acoustical Study of the Multi-Pattern Double Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

The polar response of a multi-pattern double diaphragm condenser microphone is controlled by an electrical circuit. We study the acoustical circuit which is build up between both diaphragms. To our knowledge, our results are new: the capillary tubes, which connect the cavities behind both diaphragms, not only act as acoustical resistances, but also as shunt compliances (proportional to the volume of capillaries and isothermal compressibility). Applications of the results to microphones design are proposed.
