A dividing network composed of digital filters and a digital delay circuit is designed in order to improve phase response of a multi-way loudspeaker system. The linear phase finite impulse response (FIR) digital filters in the dividing network eliminates the disadvantage of nonlinear phase phase response of an analog dividing network. The digital delay circuit cancels a propagation time difference between a woofer and a tweeter which results from an offset of their diaphragm positions. The linear phase dividing network enables the loudspeaker to accomplish a faithful waveform reproduction. Digital technology also increases the flexibility of loudspeaker system design because phase and amplitude responses of a dividing network can be controlled independently.
