A new radio service known as the FMX stereo broadcast system has been undergoing tests in the United States for approximately tw0 years. The development of the FMX system was originally begun at the CBS Technology Center. When CBS discontinued the operation of the Technology Center in late 1986, the responsibility for continuing the development, licensing, and marketing of the FMX system was transferred to a newly formed organization known as Broadcast Technology Partners (BTP). BTP is a partnership which includes CBS, the National Association of Broadcasters, and FMX Associates (an investor group). The present employees of BTP previously participated in the development of the FMX system at the CBS Technology Center.
