A compound loading loudspeaker system is comprised of a main driver, an additional driver, and a housing cabinet. The compound loading system was first introduced by H. F. Olson in 1957. In this paper, the compound system has been investigated to achieve smooth frequency responses and adequate sound reproduction in a low frequency range. For discussion, normalized sound pressure responses of the compound system are evaluated in terms of acoustic parameters of the drivers and the cabinet. Measured results of the compound system are compared with those of a conventional closed-box loudspeaker system.
