Ambiophony: Has Its Time Finally Arrived?

Ambiophony, or electroacoustic enhancement, in the form of conventional sound reinforcement and enhancement is a well-established fact in the live performance of popular music. In the case of classical music concerts, the application of electroacoustic techniques has been limited, and in many cases, unsatisfactory. Proper application and operation of state-of-the-art audio hardware will open a large potential market for electroacoustic enhancements in all types of performing spaces. A recent installation at the Capitol theatre in Yakima, Washington, is cited.
