Mechanical Impedance at the Stylus and the Design of Stereo Phonograph Cartridges

Authors: Dieter, Jr., Norman H.

AES Convention 12 · Paper 175 · October 1960

Abstract

The definition and measurement of mechanical stylus impedance will be described and examples of measurements presented. These measurements will be related to the performance requirements of a phonograph cartridge and the design factors that must be considered. The conclusion will point out the limitations of -compliance- and -mass- as indicators of the mechanical ability of phonograph cartridges.
