This paper describes a reinforced olefin polymer diaphragm having a high specific modulus, mechanical loss tangent and flextural rigidity. Its application to loudspeakers will be discussed. Compared with diaphragm of conventional paper cone material, the specific modulus and the flextural rigidity are three times higher, the mechanical loss tangent is equal or greater. The reinforced olefin polymer diaphragm is dimensionally more stable, also. With reinforced olefin polymer, it is possible to mold loudspeakers from woofer diaphragms to tweeter diaphragms, quickly and accurately, and also to realize a wide frequency response characteristic and low distortion.
