Two separate techniques have led to successful and practical solid-state integrated filters suitable for many purposes. These filters bid fair to revolutionize filtering in the audio-frequency range. Transversal filters combine linear phase with steep skirst and high out-of-band attenuation. Never switched-capacitor filters permit implementation of most standard low-pass and bandpass L-C designs in integrated-circuit form. For either type, passband frequencies scale linearly with an external clock input frequency. As an example, one filter family permits three third-octave, two half-octave, or one full-octave filter in a single dual-in-line integrated-circuit package, all meeting ANSI specifications. Performance, limitations, and areas of application are amplified, including rules for custom specifications.
