Multiple-Channel Sound Systems

The amplification, to be obtained with a sound system, is limited by acoustic feedback. Means for reducing acoustic feedback were the subject of an earlier paper (44th Convention, Rotterdam, February 1973). The application of a plurality of sound system channels, coupled only through the diffuse sound field in an auditorium, constitutes a new approach to reduction of acoustic feedback and gives way to higher amplification of direct sound (speech sound systems) and diffuse sound (ambiophonic sound systems) as well as to recreate auditorium acoustics (multiple channel reverberation systems).
