Wirebound discussion- and interpreter systems are difficult to use for large conferences especially when the participants have no fixed positions. In these cases induction loop systems are used. These systems have the disadvantage that the signal cannot be confined to the room where it is transmitted and it is thus possible to pick up the signal even outside the conference room. Furthermore, loop systems in adjacent rooms interfere with each other and the transmitted quality leaves much to be desired. These disadvantages are easily overcome with systems using infrared light for the transmission. A nine-channel-system of this kind is described and demonstrated.
