Dipole Radiator Systems

A number of baffle systems, such as sealed and vented boxes, horns, and labyrinths (i.e. transmission lines) have received attention over the last twenty years. Out of this collection the vented box appears to offer the best acoustic return for a given box size. There is, however, one type of baffle that has received relatively little attention -- the open baffle or dipole system format. In the following material, several important details of this format will be examined using the concepts of Thiele and Small as a yardstick.
