Loudspeakers: An Approach to Objective Listening

Some of the pitfalls in live versus recorded test methods currently in use are described and given as reasons why meaningful results could never be obtained using these methods. Rank order tests are carried out in one of our listening rooms are described and results given as illustrations of some of the problems encountered in ordinary listening rooms. Methods of minimizing some of these difficulties are described. The test method adopted to avoid all of the difficulties hitherto encountered in live versus recorded listening tests is described in detail. Variations, designed to overcome the use of the `test form` with a minimum departure from theoretical absoluteness, are described.
