Design of Low Distortion Condenser Microphone Using Pushpull Electret Transducer

In recording studios and concert halls, multi-mixing technique has become more and more popular, in which microphones are placed close to the musical instruments for recording high quality sound. The nonlinear distortion of microphones at high sound pressure level, therefore, has become more important than before. In condenser microphones, the upper limit of the dynamic range is determined by the nonlinear distortion of transducers or preamplifiers. So as to improve the electrical nonlinear distortion due to the stray capacity of transducers, we have developed a push-pull electret transducer which cancels the distortion. In this paper we describe the electrical nonlinear distortions of both conventional single-type and new push-pull type condenser transducers. And also we describe the structure, performance and feature of the new electret condenser microphone.
