The term -matched impedance- is used frequently, but not always with the same meaning. A matched impedance is not the ideal condition in many cases, and the best impedance relationship between two circuits which are to be connected together depends upon the circumstances of the application. The paper discusses the origin of the matched impedance concept, and gives examples of situations where it is optimum. It then shows additional circuit conditions where other impedance relationships prove to be optimum.
