In reverberant rooms it is desirable to lay down sound pressure levels which provide a constant ratio of direct to reverberant sound to listeners, while dissipating the total sound power within the audience area. Toward this end, much work has been done and is being done, to define the directivity factor Q of loudspeakers. Attention is now directed toward the optimization of required loudspeaker Q as related to each point within a given audience area. New philosophies derived from time delay spectrometry, and equations relating to the distribution of sound within rooms are presented.
