The disc cutter head, with associated springs, dashpot, advance ball, and lacquer disc, is modeled by an equivalent circuit. Numerical values for this model are deduced from experimental data for a WSestrex 3DII cutter mounted on a Scully lathe. The model is then used to calculate the audio frequency response and the rejection of unwanted groove modulation caused by lacquer warp. The results obtained with and without the advance ball are compared with each other.
