On the Performance Criteria for Loudspeakers in Rooms

Properties of sound sources can most accurately be described for the free-field conditions. These conditions are perfectly definable, moreover both the radiated field structure and the reaction of the environment on the source are of the simplest form. However, sound sources mostly do not work under these conditions. The feasibility of retransforming the free-field characteristics of sound sources for a given room will be discussed. The different acoustic load of the source in different environments and the influence of these differences will be demonstrated on the example of a loudspeaker.
