AB - Psychophysical (stimulus-response) methods can be used to relate loudness, noisiness and speech interference to steady state noise type and levels. Annoyance, effects on work performance or sleep and relaxation, and nonauditory effects may be equally important to noise control. Annoyance in particular is influenced by intervening (moderator or conditioning) variables about as much as by the physical characteristics of the noise. These types of problems and a few answers will be discussed.
