Abstract

The automotive industry is undergoing a rapid transformation driven by the integration of advanced sensor technologies to enhance vehicle performance, safety, and passenger comfort. Among these, digital MEMS accelerometers have emerged as a key enabling technology due to their compact size, low power consumption, and improved bandwidth, making them suitable for a wide range of automotive applications, including active noise control and predictive maintenance. Recent advancements in automotive communication protocols, such as the Automotive Audio Bus (A2B), provide a scalable, cost-effective, and robust digital interface solutions simplifying vehicle wiring and reducing system complexity compared to traditional analog solutions. In this context, we present the design and development of a wideband digital MEMS accelerometer module based on A2B technology. We adopted an off-the-shelf MEMS accelerometer with 8 kHz bandwidth and we focused on the integration of the sensor and A2B transceiver onto a compact printed circuit board (PCB), optimizing both electrical and mechanical aspects to ensure reliable operation within the targeted frequency range. Special attention was given to the mechanical design, particularly the selection of fixing points and the overall structure, to achieve a resonant frequency well above the operational bandwidth. The complete system was validated through a combination of FEM simulations and experimental measurements using a vibration shaker, thus confirming that the frequency
response remains flat and consistent across the intended bandwidth.
