Conference Paper

Cloud-based audio features on demand

Authors: Kalinichenko, Victor

2026 AES 6th International Automotive Audio Conference · Paper 35 · July 2026

Abstract

This paper presents a concept of outsourcing real-time audio signal processing of a car audio system to the cloud using fast mobile connection, e.g. 5G or future technologies 6G or a satellite connection. This approach opens new opportunities in implementing sophisticated audio features such as immersive surround, wave-guide synthesis, advanced Engine Sound Synthesis, including AI-based features, even for base multimedia systems with substantially limited resources. Moreover, it allows OEMs and feature suppliers to significantly shorten the project development time due to unified cloud system architecture and well-developed eco-system. It is underlined that latency critical features like EOC, in-car communication cannot be outsourced to the cloud. Losing connections, latency and other concerns are discussed. Business aspects are considered.
