Q,. EQ, and alpha: Their Interrelated Roles in Sound System Design

A successful sound system provides an optimum match to the acoustic environment. There are three basic domains involved in achieving this match. The transducers interfacing the electronic system to the acoustic environment, the electronic system, and the acoustic environment. The three primary parameters facilitating sound system adjustment are: Q in the transducer domain, EQ in the electronics domain, and alpha in the acoustic environment domain.
