A Framework & Toolkit for Live Music Performance in the AlloSphere
Express Paper · Paper 398 · October 2025
Abstract
This paper presents a framework and toolkit developed for live music performance in the AlloSphere, a 10-meter diameter immersive instrument equipped with a 54.1 loudspeaker array. The toolkit enables real-time object-based audio rendering and spatialization through a modular architecture that extends AlloLib, a cross-platform multimedia framework developed by the AlloSphere Research Group. The primary utility of the live performance suite is the ChannelStrip class, which combines controls for object-based spatialization, effect processing, and basic mixing for each audio input channel. A drag-and-drop graphical interface provides intuitive visual feedback and control of object positions and supports efficient scene management with savable presets. The framework was validated through a live concert featuring a three-piece rock band, demonstrating stable operation, low latency, and effective spatialization. Beyond the AlloSphere, the toolkit offers a reusable approach for immersive music performance across large-scale multichannel environments, bridging spatial audio research and artistic practice.
