In audio education, access to diverse multichannel and immersive recordings is essential for developing both technical and critical listening skills. However, most academic programs lack a centralized, structured database of 3D audio resources. This paper proposes the creation of a dedicated immersive audio database within the Music Technology Program at New York University, aimed at supporting hands-on education and research in spatial sound. The database will feature recordings in a variety of formatsincluding stereo, binaural, 5.1, 7.1, and Dolby Atmosas well as raw stems and completed mixes. The initial phase will be launched in collaboration with the Tonmeister class in Summer 2025. Recordings will be captured using a variety of stereo and spatial microphone arrays, including student-deployed rigs and specialized microphones such as the 3Dio Omni, Zylia, and Ambeo-Hamasaki array. The database will also include impulse responses (IRs) captured for each array and environment, enabling both acoustic analysis and hands-on learning through convolution, spatial modeling, and format comparison. We detail the proposed structure of the database, including file organization, tagging system, and integration into the curriculum. Long-term development plans include incorporating archival Tonmeister recordings, supporting student and faculty contributions, and expanding compatibility with VR platforms, game engines, and hybrid learning environments. By creating a dynamic and evolving repository, this initiative empowers students to engage with spatial audio production and critical listening at a professional level, while providing a foundation for future research in immersive capture techniques, acoustic profiling, and multiformat evaluation.
