A Collaborative and Reflective Framework for Redesigning Music Technology Degree Programmes

This paper presents a structured 12-step curriculum design framework rooted in Walkers naturalistic model, aimed at supporting the redesign of complex, interdisciplinary degree programmes. The framework was implemented in the redevelopment of a Music Production & Technology degree, and this case study is presented here. A combination of reflective writing, stakeholder engagement, sub-discipline mapping, and design thinking principles provide a practical, adaptable process for guiding collaborative curriculum reform. Use of this framework resulted in deeper faculty engagement, fostered shared ownership of curriculum decisions, and led to measurable improvements in programme coherence and relevance. As such, this research contributes a replicable model for curriculum development that can be adapted across disciplines, particularly in programmes that require negotiation between multiple epistemologies, professional standards, and creative practices.
