AB - The performance of the prevailing audio coding methods is not fully established in some object-based audio situations such as six degrees of freedom (6DOF) listening. We implement a modified Opus codec capable of processing object input and analyzing the mutual masking between objects without information about object metadata or listener position. MUSHRA results indicate that the proposed codec is suitable of coding object content at realistic transmission rates while still retaining excellent quality. The model accounting for mutual masking seems relatively suitable for next generation applications involving listener movement and 6DOF situations. We also make available our Opus implementation1 as an open-source object coding solution and alternative for the current parametric codecs.
