This study explores different mapping implementations for various input devices for an immersive mixing task within a polar coordinate system mixing space. A test, in which subjects were asked to pan a monophonic sound object (probe) to the location of a pink noise burst (target), was conducted in a custom 3D loudspeaker array. The objectives were to determine how quickly and accurate the subjects were able to perform the task using each device, which was most appropriate, and which was most preferred overall. Results show significant differences in response time between devices. Input devices with high level of integrality in and direct mapping to spatial parameters were the most accurate and fastest in trial duration when performing the task. Futures studies will involve a more thorough immersive audio mixing task that allows further detail into the variables investigated .
