An Ultraminiature Console Compression System with Maximum User Flexibility

The issues involved in the design of a compact mixing console compression system, with the sound engineer being able to control both the static and dynamic properties, is described. Particular attention is paid to advanced multi-function feedback signal processing configurations using modern integrated circuits in order to achieve performance comparable to rack-sized equipment. Also, third-winding feedback is used on both the input and output transformers to achieve a maximum performance-to-size ratio. Floating shunt regulated power supplies allow the unit to operate in any console whose voltage differ by at least 24 volts. No AC current appears on the power supply feed.
