The availability of the doubly balanced modulator to monolithic form at very economical prices has opened up new opportunities to the circuit designer for effective solution of signal processing requirements. The switching characteristics of this class of devices is near ideal in terms of applications in audio signal control functions. Definite advantages with regard to switching criteria are possessed by these devices when compared with standard elements. The balanced modulator has the additional advantages of an inherent DPDT switching structure programmable in terms of logic control and insertion gain or loss.
