Despite a shift in emphasis toward more complex methods of evaluation, measurement of Reverberation Time (RT) remains extensively used within architectural acoustics. The -Method of Integrated Tone Burst- suggested by M. R. Schroeder in 1965 has found acceptance as a more accurate approach, but its application has been limited, possibly for lack of suitable equipment. Briefly stated in practical terms, the Integrated Tone Burst method consists of the following: the structure to be investigated is excited by a short pulse (-shortness- will be dealt with later). The response of the structure to this impulse is sensed by a microphone, and the signal is squared and integrated. This integral plotted to a log scale against time is the desired reverberation curve.
