This paper reviews trends seen in the development of the home multimedia environment, from the perspective of a mixed signal IC supplier. General trends in the evolution of the multimedia environment are discussed first, including the question of “who will own the home media hub?” We then dig deeper into the implications at the silicon chip level, focusing in particular on the mixed signal chips that are required to be built for this ever more demanding market place.
