A permanently implanted transducer which measures the central aortic pressure without protruding into the lumen of the vessel is described. It is intended to help achieve more precise synchronization between the natural heart and the mechanical auxiliary ventricle designed by Dr. Adrian Kantrowitz, Maimonides Medical Center, in collaboration with the Avco-Everett Corp. The strain gage is mounted on a circular ring of epoxy fiberglasss with the two ends fixed to the ring, thus driving the element from the center.
