This article proposes a method for creating a virtual-room impulse response by using a signal theoretic approach using random sequences. The proposed method requires no detailed room-boundary conditions, but includes the sound-source distance (SSD). The impulse response record is constructed according to the minimum-phase property for the transfer function (TF) of which the phase is characterized by the propagation phase (PP) with random deviation dependent on SSD. Listening tests confirmed that the virtual impulse response rendered the perception of SSD.
