A new automatic speech processing device is described whose function is to correct deficiencies in speech program caused by inadequate energy in the presence band. The relative amount of total energy in the presence band is determined and, if deemed inadequate, the amplitude of the presence band is boosted until an optimum spectral distribution is obtained. An automatic Speech-Music Discriminator inhibits action during music programming.
